I AM ANGRY
December 9, 2008 – 3:23 am1) Above all, I am angry because my beloved France has handed the business of wine over to the savages of the New World. We have lost our way.
2) I am angry, because In France, our government now tells us how to label it, when to sell it, what to call it, and that we cannot even write about it on the internet!
3) I am angry because the world of wine has not changed since I was a child. It is pompous. Pretensions dominate and regular people are bullied into being too intimidated to express how they really feel. The “experts” rely on other “experts” who rely on other “experts” to validate their mutual opinions, which are simply about whether THEY like a wine. Why should wine not be like gateaux au chocolate? Everyone knows whether they like it or not, and people value their OWN opinions.
4) I am angry because pretentious halfwits dominate the conversation and forget that wine is about enjoyment and having a good time.
6) I am angry because we don’t have enough fun! Wine, and especially French wine, should be about PLAY.
There are many, many other things that I am very, very Angry About. These are the things that will shape my journey from my Castle in Le Languedoc to Paris, London and then, America. No one will be spared the wrath of Le Beast. I will bring France back to Numero Uno. It is I, “Le Beast”, I and no other!
